Electric Guitar Make: Ibanez Model: RG470 Year Acqired: 2002 Price Paid: $ 175.00 Comment: I bought this guitar at a pawn shop in Minnesota. It came with EMG 81 pickups at a discount because the volume nob was broken (which only cost 15 dollars to repair). The guy at the pawn shop didn´t even know that they weren´t stock pickups. Extremely lucky find. Electric Guitar Make: Other Model: Schecter C-1 Elite Year Acqired: 2007 Price Paid: $ 200.00 Comment: Bought this from a friend in Boston who had switched to bass and didn´t need his guitar anymore. I put a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge pickup. Amplifier Make: Marshall Model: Marshall JCM 800 Half-Stack Year Acqired: 2001 Price Paid: $ 600.00 Comment: I bought this amp from my first guitar teacher several years ago. And he bought it used when he was a kid, so it´s pretty old and it needs work. The tubes are pretty worn out because I haven´t changed them in a while. For some reason, the high input channel doesn´t work sometimes. But I always use the low input channel anyways. Effects Pedal Make: Electro Harmonix Model: Metal Muff Year Acqired: 2007 Price Paid: $ 150.00 Comment: This is an amazing pedal for metal distortion. The nobs on it are ridiculously sensitive so you have amazing control over the tone. There´s also a "Top Boost" nob that targets the high-mid range of metal guitar distortion. I usually have that up pretty high because it sounds like 80´s metal and it´s awesome. Effects Pedal Make: Boss Model: NS-2 Noise Suppressor Year Acqired: 2007 Price Paid: $ 100.00 Comment: So people tell me to put this at the end of my signal flow, but I found it sounds way better before going into the distortion box. I use an active EMG 81 on my Ibanez and this pedal really cleans up the hum from the active pickups. So sending a clean signal to the distortion box to be amplified sounds much better than sending a dirty signal to get amplified. Plus, the Metal Muff is pretty quiet in terms of hum and excess noise. I tried to take advantage of its send/return feature, but when i tried that setup, it colored my tone too much and muffled my distortion. I only use it to clean up the noise on my guitar, not the noise from my pedals. Effects Pedal Make: Other Model: Planet Waves Chromatic Tuner Year Acqired: 2007 Price Paid: $ 75.00 Comment: I previously had the Boss chromatic tuner stomp box, but it got stolen at a show. Someone convinced me to try this one because of the magical "true bypass" term that marketing likes to throw around. This one was 15 bucks cheaper so I gave it a shot. I haven´t A/B-ed the sound of this one versus the other, but it sounds good to me and I haven´t had any problems so far. Also very easy to see on a dark stage.
